SOFIA/DALIAN. Eurostat has cut the EU production estimate for sunflower seeds. Weather conditions are giving rise to concerns in Eastern Europe and in China.

Sharp cut in EU crop estimate

In July report, the European Commission issued a sharp downward revision for this year's sunflower crop to 9.5 million mt, following an initial upward revision in the June estimate to 10.1 million mt. Yet, the current estimate still ranges 9% above the 8.7 million mt produced in 2025. Romania remains the leading producing EU member state, followed by Bulgaria and Hungary.
