Sunflower seeds: European buyers become restless

SOFIA/KIEV. Developments in the Bulgarian sunflower seed market in the past few weeks have ensured that many buyers are already focusing on the 2019 harvest. The Ukraine could offer affordable alternatives this year.

Enquiries for new harvest
The Bulgarian sunflower seed farmers continue to hold back raw seeds with the goal of achieving better prices this season than in previous years. Officially, the raw seed prices for black sunflower seeds, in shell, 96% purity are relatively stable at a level of 307 EUR/mt CPT Varna. When actually, processors are currently paying prices of around 310 EUR/mt for raw seeds. Accordingly, the offers for hulled sunflower seeds, bakery currently vary between 640 EUR/mt and 680 EUR/mt DDP Germany. The prices continue to rise.
