SOFIA. Because of the unfavourable weather conditions in the last few weeks, sowing of the spring crops has been delayed in Bulgaria.

However, since farmers began early with preparations this year, the sowing of the crops is still more advanced than last year at this time. The rainfall gives a glimmer of hope, supplying the fields with additional moisture in the next few days, but not everywhere. While the plants in the north/north west of Bulgaria profit from the rain, there is a clear lack of moisture in the south/south east of the country. Market players still do not consider it to be a problem and the prices are stable.

Commodity slump
Trade is currently limited on the Bulgarian sunflower seed market; both buyers and sellers have withdrawn from commodity trading. At the moment, there are no ships in the port of Varna waiting to be loaded with sunflower seeds, and there are also none in sight. The prices for black sunflower seeds, in-shell, 96% purity, are currently at 0.337 EUR/mt CPT Varna.

Bakery pause
Market players assume that an above-average number of suppliers will take a break this summer. Many traders have their hands full, but prompt requests can generally still be covered. The stable demand shows that buyers accept the current price level.
