Sunflower seeds: larger crops in Russia and Kazakhstan

KYIV/SOFIA. The current crop estimate from the US Department of Agriculture contains massive corrections for many important growing regions. Prices are slowly falling on the European market. Sunflower seed imports into the EU have fallen by almost half since the start of the season.

Numerous crop corrections

In its latest report, the USDA has significantly adjusted its 2025 crop estimates for several countries. While global production of 55.268 million mt is hardly any different from last month's forecast, some of the individual figures differ considerably.

Russia's sunflower seed crop is expected to reach a whopping 19 million mt this year, up from the previous estimate of 18 million mt. Kazakhstan is also expected to see a production increase to 2.4 million mt, which would be 40% more than expected. The Kazakh Grain Union, however, cu
