Sunflower seeds: Small kernels and high demand

SOFIA. Market players are reckoning with a nominal increase in prodcution. The crop is, however, expected to mainly consist of smaller sunflower seeds.

EU production set to decline

Reports state that, the European Commission estimates the sunflower seed production in Bulgaria at 2.08 million metric tonnes. Yields are expected to average at 2.6 metric tonnes per hectare. As a rule, however, the crop estimates prsented by different analysts and institutiosn generally tend to differ by 100,000-200,000 metric tonnes. Oil World has, for instance, recently estimated prodcution at 2 million metric tonnes, whereas Coceral estimates producitn as low as 1.83 million metric tonnes.
