Sunflower seeds: traders under selling pressure

SOFIA/KYIV. Good crop prospects and a lack of space in the warehouses are causing sales pressure in the Bulgarian sunflower seed market. In Ukraine, about 4.7 million ha could be sown with sunflower seeds for this year, and the crop forecast is a good third behind last year's result.

Significant price correction

In the Bulgarian sunflower seed market, prices came under enormous pressure last week. According to market players, this is partly due to the fact that storage capacities have to be cleared due to the wheat harvest, which is why traders and producers have to dispose of their stocks more quickly. Prices for hulled sunflower kernels, bakery recently fell to EUR 1.40/kg FCA Bulgaria.
