SACRAMENTO/BUDAPEST. According to the figures presented by the California Walnut Board, this season should produce the second largest crop. The USDA, however, still expects a record crop.

Walnut imports up by 735%

At an estimated 610,284 mt, US walnut production has reached the second highest volume on record, outperformed only by the record result of 620,821 mt in 2016, these are the latest figures presented by California Walnuts. The US Department of Agriculture is, however, reckoning with nearly 626,000 mt, almost 1,000 mt more than in the record year 2016.

Shipments have risen by 10% to 252,394 mt over last year. While the export volume increased by 10% to 198,484 mt, domestic consumption also increased by 10% to 53,910 mt.
