Walnuts: US nuts to arrive in Europe in December

SACRAMENTO/FRANKFURT. While US producers are increasingly reporting that there may be fewer Chandler walnuts than expected, the INC has revised its global production estimates 2018/19 upwards.

 

Prices in comparison

As of December, new crop walnuts from California will arrive in Europe. Although estimates continue to point to a bumper crop (up to 626,000 mt of in shells), there will be fewer Chandler walnuts than expected. The yield is expected to be 10-15% lower than in 2017, especially in the more northerly growing regions. However, the walnut kernels should be of very good quality.

Traders are offering US walnut kernels, 20% halves for 5.25 EUR/kg DDP Germany, Chilean walnut kernels are slightly cheaper at 5.20 EUR/kg. Romanian wal
