SACRAMENTO. California Walnuts’ shipment report for January comes as a wake-up call for the industry. Total US shipments for inshell and shelled walnuts declined by 8.1% in September-January. Although…

…shipments to Africa and the Middle East have decreased by more than 11%, the region still retains its position as top export market. More than half of the shipments to the Middle East are destined for Turkey, which is the most import single export market. Inshell shipments to Turkey have climbed by more than 6% to 35,982 metric tonnes. Inshell shipments to Italy have risen by 5% to 21,881 metric tonnes. In addition, the shipments of shelled walnuts to Germany have surged by 72% to 13,985 metric tonnes.
