Barley: Is the market preparing for a shock?

SOFIA. Bulgaria may be in for a shock next year. Sowing acreage has considerably decreased and the export figures are almost beyond belief.

Sowing has decreased
According to the Ministry of Agriculture sowing stood at 118,292 ha last week. At the same time last year acreage was, however, estimated at 155,597 ha. This is a 24% decrease. Such a significant drop will have a tremendous impact on the 2017 output and will affect future prices. The problem is the lack of demand for wheat, which makes it less attractive for farmers to sow the grain.
