Buckwheat: acreage smaller than last year

KYIV/DALIAN. EU countries have increased their buckwheat imports by 22% this season. A smaller crop is expected in Ukraine in 2025.

Imports put pressure on prices in China

According to data from the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, sowing for the 2025 buckwheat crop was originally expected to reach just under 89,150 hectares, compared with 100,800 hectares in the previous year. By mid-June, however, only 79,600 hectares had been sown. Unfavourable weather conditions had affected buckwheat production last year, so that only around 88,100 hectares were harvested.
