CHRUDIM. As feared, the low temperatures and frost caused damage to the poppy plants in Czech growing regions in the last seven days.

Damage assessment
Frost damage was inevitable, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. When the farmers have a better overview, they have the option to re-sow the lost areas or to hope that the plants will still recover after all. The weather in the next few weeks will play an important role here. The acreage was already estimated to be smaller than last year. In combination with the potential crop damage, the Czech poppy production could decrease for the first time in five years.
