CHRUDIM. Despite smaller acreages, Czech blue poppy traders are optimistic that the difference relative to last year can be compensated by higher yields per hectare.

Crop predictions
The Czech Statistical Office based their initial predictions on last year's yield per hectare of 0.80 mt/ha. To achieve a crop comparable to 2016 with an acreage of 32,000 ha, the yield per hectare would have to reach at least 0.89 mt/ha. However, the actual size of the acreages and yields can only be estimated more precisely in July.

Prices below last year's level
Offers for prompt blue poppy deliveries from the Czech Republic remain at 1,210 EUR/mt DDP Germany. The prices are attractive enough to be interesting for buyers, but at the same time, they still provide the farmers with enough sales that they have no reason to hold back their stocks.
The first offers for blue poppy from the new crop are also on the market. For deliveries from the 2017 crop, Czech traders are currently asking for 1,260 EUR/mt DDP Germany. These offers are 50 EUR/mt above the current level, and are a full 150 EUR/mt cheaper than at the beginning of the 2016/17 season.
