Blue poppy seeds: Will prices drop?

FRANFURT. The market witnessed dramatic price increases in the Czech Republic. Buyers were confronted with a year-on-year price hike of more than 80%. The question is how long these high prices can be maintained.

Incredible price hike
The average export prices for 2017/18 are as high as 2.32 EUR/kg – a year-on-year increase of 81.3%. It is the small crop, which takes the blame for this incredible price hike. In the Czech Replublic the prices have now reached a level of 2.25-2.30 EUR/kg FCA. Exchange rate fluctuations caused prices to further increase this week. Prices in Germany vary between 2.36 and 2.45 EUR/kg for free house deliveries.
