Buckwheat: balanced market before Chinese New Year

DALIAN/BRUSSELS. The Chinese buckwheat market appears balanced a few weeks before the Chinese New Year festivities. Processors are primarily buying according to demand, while growers are unwilling to accept lower prices.

Price fluctuations in China

There is currently sufficient buckwheat available on the Chinese domestic market. Imports have recently increased slightly. Meanwhile, the stocks of domestic growers are unevenly distributed across regions: while supplies in Inner Mongolia are tight, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia still have stocks. At the same time, farmers are reluctant to sell at low prices, which is supporting the current price level.
