Buckwheat: new grain corridor for Ukraine

DALIAN/KYIV. Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelensky announced a new grain corridor on 10 October. Intention is that shipments will pass through Moldova to Romania and enable Ukraine to supply the world market with grains. Focus has shifted towards the new crop in China and prices are up.

High moisture levels slow exports

Although the prices for Chinese buckwheat are relatively firm at present, they do range USD 20/mt higher than in September. The first sales of the new crop have been conducted with traders offering a bit more than for older supplies. As moisture levels are still high the current arrivals cannot be exported. This will change as soon as arrivals pick up. China also imports large volumes of raw organic buckwheat, which are then processed and reexported.
