Buckwheat: massive increase in EU imports from Kazakhstan

DALIAN/KYIV. Around 5% of buckwheat fields have been harvested in Ukraine so far, significantly more than this time last year. Meanwhile, the EU primarily imported buckwheat from Kazakhstan and Ukraine in the first two months of the 2024/2025 season.

Harvest is progressing faster

The Chinese buckwheat market is currently quiet. Despite smaller acreages this year, prices are holding steady for the time being, as imports to China are also a decisive factor for prices on the domestic market. These are becoming increasingly important. Offers for hulled buckwheat are currently at USD 870/mt FOB Dalian, while prices of USD 960/mt FOB are being asked for organic buckwheat.
