KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. A new virus is impacting milk production in France, Switzerland and Germany. EU butter is still much cheaper than last year. Exports have already exceeded EUR 1 million in the EU.

New virus reduces dairy supply in Germany

Milk arrivals are still seasonally low in Germany as the South German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten reports. Recent heatwaves and a new virus, which is affecting dairy cows, are further reducing milk production. First detected in Switzerland a European variant of the Shamonda virus is spreading among cattle, sheep and goats in Germany and France as the Friedrich Loffler Institute and local media state.
