NEW DELHI. New harvests have flooded the market in India with chickpeas leaving little option but for prices to turn in one direction.

Abundant supplies

Increased supply pressure from Gujarat and Maharashtra has weighed down demand for chickpeas in recent weeks. Prices are presently fluctuating between USD 0.89/kg and USD 0.94/kg for different qualities. This trend is driven by anticipations of an abundant new crop, for which arrivals will pick up in April. Other pulses are concurrently trading at lower rates, leaving no room for price escalations. US prices range at USD 1.60-1.62/kg in New Mexico.

Observations show that production has risen significantly across several states in India incl
