Chickpeas: high prices fail to deter buyers

NEW DELHI. Supply constraints are one of the key drivers for chickpeas in India. The domestic marekt is highly volatile. High prices are not putting buyers off.

No pressure to sell

Supply constraints, consistent local demand and the absence of new arrivals are key drivers for chickpeas. Although overall trade activity is moderate, even marginal inquiries are triggering sharp gains across several markets. In Maharashtra, chickpeas have moved higher to USD 8.43–8.79/kg. A similar upward momentum has been observed in Karnataka and Indore, where quotations vary according to quality. Most recent arrivals have already been absorbed, and traders report little to no pressure from sellers to offload stock.
