NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Demand for chickpeas on the Indian domestic market is weak, while the situation looks slightly better internationally. In Canada, prices for animal feed in particular are under pressure.

Prices under pressure

The Indian chickpea market is currently weak. Whilst the harvest is underway, demand remains low, putting pressure on prices. Goods from Maharashtra in particular have recently seen a noticeable decline, mainly due to a lack buying interest. Although there are supportive signals from international markets, domestic momentum remains subdued. Trading activity is generally quiet, as there is no demand in many places and sales are limited.
