NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. High availability and subdued demand are ensuring that prices for Indian chickpeas continue to decline. In Canada, too, there is currently little reason for price increases.

Indian goods barely competitive

The chickpea market is currently under considerable downward pressure as large new crops are being added to the large stocks. The crop is expected to be around the same size as last year as conditions in the key growing states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh were favourable for crop development due to a mild winter.
