NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. India's chickpea exports are reported to have doubled year-on-year - bringing with it both advantages and disadvantages. There is still a lot of uncertainty about this year’s acreage in Canada and the USA.

Chickpea industry is booming

The Indian chickpea industry is on the upswing, according to recent data. Exports are expected to have doubled in the 2022/23 season compared to the previous year, and demand from overseas continues to grow rapidly. Market experts forecast prices to rise in the next season; this boom benefits Indian agriculture as well as the country's economy, but also ensures that prices on the domestic market can hardly decline.
