NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. After persistent price declines, Indian traders are happy about the slight increase last week. The mood on the markets in the USA and Canada is also improving noticeably since the hoped-for rains have arrived.

Lower production in 2022 in India

After Indian chickpeas reached their price peak of over USD 1.40/kg a few weeks ago, a temporary downward trend followed. Last week, however, there was a new glimmer of hope for traders, as export prices climbed by USD 10/mt. According to market players, this is due to various factors. Particular attention is being paid to this year's production, which according to current estimates could be up to 42% lower than last year and is estimated at around 1.5 million mt.
