NEW DELHI/ANKARA. Signals are mixed as to what way the market for chickpeas will turn in India. In Turkey, the direction is clear.

Mixed signals in India

A mix of supply pressures and cautious demand has kept the market balanced. Although prices have fallen in June due to excess carryover stocks and weak liquidity, the situation has now changed. Traders and packaging units have resumed buying due to tightening supplies from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, while offers from Maharashtra remain attractive in the USD 0.74–0.79/kg range.
