Chickpeas: panic sales are not a good idea

NEW DELHI. High freight costs and interest rates are making it difficult for traders to hold on to stocks in India. Panic sales would, however, not be a good idea given the current market situation for chickpeas.

Liquidity issues with limited impact

Despite liquidity issues faced by traders due to freight and interest costs on stocks held for four to five months, it should be noted that a new domestic crop will not emerge anytime soon. International prices also remain high. As a result, the market is unlikely to experience a sustained downturn. Stocked and coarse-quality goods with minor defects are being sold at lower levels, temporarily softening raw material prices.
