Chickpeas: production lower than anticipated

NEW DELHI. Recent production estimates are lower than expected for chickpeas in India. Question, however, is in how far this will spark a turnaround.

Low production estimates

Chickpeas are demonstrating some resilience, supported by lower-than-expected production forecasts. Unseasonal high temperatures earlier in the year have reduced yields across key growing regions such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The drop in production is stabilising prices and reducing the likelihood of any sharp declines.
