Corn: weather has always been a factor to reckon with

SOFIA. Two stories to tell so far. On a national level, overall sporadic rains favor the development of the crop because the soil receives the necessary moisture content. And second, on a local level, because of the hailstorms in the beginning of the month, some farmers got total loss. Anyhow, in the beginning of next month, more precipitation is forecasted. Heavy storms are not totally discounted though!

If the odds, on a national level, continue to be in favor of farmers, this year’s aggregate output could be higher by as much as 20%, as local farmers expect. Anyhow, the start of the harvesting season is still in the distance.

Market developments

Domestic trade is predominant on a weekly basis, as exports are sluggish at best. Short-term forecast is for the trend to continue as drastic changes in market sentiment is not expected. Prices fluctuate depending on local demand, as the general trend in the past few weeks seems to have been a subsequent recovery in the value of prices after experiencing a downward fall.
