Desiccated coconuts remain stable
With the end of the European summer holidays, buyers and traders are returning to the market. Increased trading activity and firmer pricing are therefore expected in the coming weeks, particularly in view of demand for the Q4 of 2026 and the first positions for 2027; this is stated by the experts at T.M. Duché in their latest report.
Export prices for desiccated coconuts remain unusually stable. The price range quoted by Philippine suppliers for the US, Europe and other markets has remained unchanged for 30 weeks now. The domestic market in Manila is developing differently, with prices rising compared with the previous week. With the return of European market players, this long period of stability could now be put to the test. An increase in enquiries and transactions, driven by purchases for Q4 of 2026 and the first positions for 2027, is likely to lead to more significant price movements.

Coconut oil and copra on an upward trend
The European coconut oil market remains subdued for the time being. Buying interest is focused more on positions for early 2027, whilst demand for short-term volumes for Q4 of 2026 is more muted. Recently, however, European coconut oil quotations have risen. Copra prices in the Philippines also rose: average farmgate increased compared with both the previous week and the previous month. Year-on-year, however, millgate prices remain around 28% lower.
As regards freight costs, the Drewry World Container Index remained unchanged. Whilst rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam and Genoa fell slightly, available capacity on the key east-west routes is being actively managed. Furthermore, developments in the Red Sea remain a significant source of uncertainty for shipments of Philippine coconut products to Europe. The Houthis have recently expanded their position along the Yemeni coast and moved closer to the strategically important Bab al-Mandeb. The strait connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is therefore a key section of the shipping route between Asia and Europe.
The current escalation could lead to shipping companies continuing to divert their vessels via the Cape of Good Hope, or increasing such diversions once again. This would lengthen journey times between Asia and Europe and tie up additional shipping capacity. At the same time, higher fuel and insurance costs could increase pressure on freight rates. For Philippine coconut products shipped to Europe, this would bring transport costs more sharply into focus, according to T.M. Duché.
