AYDIN. Turkey already is the largest exporter of dried figs. With the help of subsidies, market players now want to increase the export volume to 100,000 mt per year.

74,500 mt are expected
The first official estimates state that with 72,000 mt, the 2018/19 Turkish dried fig production will decrease by 7.9% compared to last. Expert are, however, reckoning with carry-over stocks of 2,000 mt for this season. According to reports, the fruits are developing well so far, and an updated production estimate is to be announced within two weeks.

Despite the expected carry-over stocks, the prices for Turkish dried figs are increasing. Supplies of qualities suitable for export to EU countries are heavily limited.
