AYDIN. Experts are urging inexperienced buyers to pay special attention to quality in Turkey.

It is barely possible to find high quality dried figs in the market. Prices are varying to a great degree because of damages and high aflatoxin values. Even the raw fig prices are varying on a level of 8.00-12.50 TRY/kg depending on quality. Inexperienced buyers are urged to be particularly cautious since they can easily fall for tricks.

Long term contracts dominate the dried fig market. Most traders, moreover, have their regular customers, who cover themselves early in the season. Turkey has nearly exported 40,000 mt of dried figs since the beginning of the season. Last year, as much as 43,500 mt had already been exported by this time, 67% of the total exports for 2015/16.
