Flaxseed: crop doing well in Canada

OTTAWA/BRUSSELS. With the plants doing well Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has once again revised the production estimate for flaxseed a bit upwards. EU imports slumped in July.

Sharp decline in sowing

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has again raised the estimates for 2024/2025. Good news is that yields will range 14% higher than last year. Yet, these upward revisions do not change the overall picture as production is still expected to decline by nearly 3% as compared with last year. This is mainly due to shortfalls in the area sown, which will be around 15% smaller. While imports are expetced to be on par with 2023/2024, exports should climb by 11%.
