Grains and oilseeds: Ukraine war developments fuel fears

BRUSSELS. With the war in Ukraine taking new terrible turns concerns are growing that wheat and corn will be impacted. Rumour has it that France exported much more wheat to Morrocco than official figures suggest. US soybean exporters depend much less on China than one may think. Euronext rapeseed futures have slipped.

Rumours over wheat exports in France

As Russia has escalated the war in Ukraine high risk premiums have rendered wheat more expensive, despite grain exports not being impeded directly so far. Good news by contrast is that harvesting is progressing well in Argentina and in Australia. This is boosting local supplies. According to Russia’s Grain Union the country exported 3.165 million mt of wheat between 1 and 20 November, which is 27% up on the same period last year.
