ORDU. With Ferrero and the TMO eyeing up the new crop the normal dynamics of supply and demand have reappeared for hazelnuts for now at least. News from the orchards has prompted the estimates for the new crop to be revised.

New crop estimates and shift in demand

Surprising as it seems, normal market conditions prevail in Turkey for hazelnuts at present. While the market has experienced crazy developments this season so far, supply and demand dominate the scene for now at least. As the TMO issued ridiculously high sales prices of TRY 124/kg for the 2022 crop and of TRY 130/kg for the 2023 crop uptake has been very low. The fact that the state-run organisation is permitting companies to use credit cards rather than insisting on up-front payment has also failed to stimulate demand.
