Hazelnuts: Crop damages cannot be ruled out

ORDU. In Turkey, attention is focused on the local elections. Last week’s decline of the Turkish lira and the detection of stink bugs are, however, also stirring concern in the market.

 

Bugs may cause crop damage

The exporters in Turkey are divided into two groups. On the one hand there are suppliers, who feel encouraged by the optimistic crop estimates of the export union and on the other hand there are suppliers who regard the estimates critically. The first group is selling their stocks up to 10% below the market price. They want to prevent taking high-priced nuts with them into the new season, should a record crop materialise as predicted.
