Hazelnuts: new production estimates

ORDU/ZAGATALA. New esitmates for this year's hazelnut crop have been issued in Turkey, where the elections, which will be held on 14 May, are already impacting trading. The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has revised the 2022/2023 production estimates for Italy, the USA and Georgia as well as Spain. Frost is also an issue in Azerbaijan.

Production lower than anticipated

Production may not be quite as good as anticipated in these four countries in October, but is still up on 2021/2022 in Italy, the USA and Spain. Output, however, declined by 27% in Georgia to 40,000 mt this season. Estimates for Turkey have remained firm at 830,628 mt. Trouble here is rather that prices are out of touch with demand and supply this season and that sales are slow, particularly in Europe.
