ORDU. Light snowfall has reportedly occurred at the eastern Black Sea coast in Turkey. Snow has never before been witnessed at this time of year with snowfall been reported...

...in places higher than 700 meters. On top of this there were two cold nights. In how far these adverse weather conditions have caused damage can only be ascertained in one to two weeks. Market players are, nevertheless, reckoning with nominal losses. Official production estimates still have to be issued and sellers are becoming increasingly cautious.

Farmgate prices skyrocket

Due to the limited supplies of raw nuts trading has largely taken place between exporters for the second week in a row. This has prompted farmgate prices to surge as high as TRY 51 per kg. At the same time, national and overseas demand is largely subdued. Despite the weak lira, the export prices have risen drastically, which is why overseas buyers are stocking up in the spot markets, where prices are much lower. Given the current price level and the lack of production estimates, the interest in the 2020 crop is rather for informative purposes, only few people are really interested in buying at present.
