Hazelnuts: TMO and Ferrero shift buying tactics

ORDU. In Turkey, the TMO has responded to quality concerns for hazelnuts. Ferrero has adopted a rather unusual approach. Buyers are reacting in totally different manners to the current market situation in Europe and in China. Exports slumped to a twenty-year low in 2025/2026.

TMO responds to quality concerns

Quality is becoming more of an issue for this year’s crop in Turkey. Exporters are voicing concerns and even the Turkish Grain Board, the TMO, has responded. According to leading exporters the raw materials received from the Giresun region have more stink bug damage than expected. Levant quality hazelnuts have also not arrived in the factories yet due to continuing rains hindering the harvest and drying the Eastern Region.
