Hazelnuts: weather conditions add pressure to market

ORDU. The current weather is ideal for the development of the hazelnut shrubs in Turkey. Traders are, however, nervous.

Exports fall 33% short of last year

After the recent hike in domestic demand the market is largely subdued again. Demand also remains subdued in Europe, with the exception of small deals. Turkey has shipped an estimated 130,000 mt of hazelnuts without shell overseas since the start of the season. At just below 200,000 mt exports ranged much higher one year ago.

Prices nearly as low as TMO bid

Although the Turkish lira gained in value last week, this had little impact on the export market. Issue is that the crackers are trying to sell
