VANCOUVER. For macadamias the market situation is challenging. China is showing no interest at all for in-shell nuts from Kenya. Prices are only moving in one direction.

China not interested in inshells from Kenya

China’s zero import tariff policy applying as of May has the potential to boost demand for Kenya’s processed macadamia nuts. Yet, for inshells the dynamic is clear. Although the country is even enabling in-shell exports to China, despite a strict ban being in place, this has so far failed to boost trade. Exporters expected nothing else. Issue is that China’s own crop is large enough to satisfy domestic consumption with in-shell demand centred on high-quality large nuts from South Africa and Australia.
