EU imports up by 23%
Mustard seed imports into the EU continue to rise. According to data from the European Commission, a total of 61,497 mt of mustard seeds was imported from third countries between 1 July 2025 and 22 February 2026, which is 23.3% more than at this time last year. The import value for the above-mentioned period amounted to EUR 36.067 million (-4.4%), while the average import price fell by 22.4% to EUR 0.59/kg compared to the same period last year.
The higher imports are partly due to imports from Brazil of 6,695 mt, which were recorded in the first month of the current season but have since stagnated. The main supplier, however, is Canada, but here too, imports have risen by 8.1% to 16,255 mt. Although shipments from Russia are also 53.4% higher year-on-year, reaching 12,347 mt, the country was the most important trading partner until import duties were imposed on Russian agricultural products imported into the EU. Shipments from Ukraine have fallen by 41.6% to 10,665 mt.
Meanwhile, imports from Kazakhstan have more than doubled to 14,448 mt. Prices for Kazakh mustard seeds, Sinapis Alba, 99% purity, are currently around EUR 700/mt DDP Poland, but may vary depending on the supplier.
The most important customer within the EU is currently Poland, which has increased its imports by 56.2% year-on-year to 19,680 mt, followed by Belgium, which has also seen an increase in imports (+148.3% to 17,480 mt). In contrast, Germany (-24.8% to 12,320 mt) reduced its imports during the above-mentioned period.

Canada's forecast remains unchanged for the time being
The Canadian mustard seed market is currently quiet. According to experts at Rayglen Commodities, prices are largely stable, with yellow mustard seeds trading at CAD 0.36-0.37/lb FOB farm. Alongside the US, the EU is currently by far the most important market for Canadian mustard seed exports.
According to the latest report from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the seasonal forecasts remain unchanged from the initial estimates published in January. Despite a larger acreage, mustard seed production in 2026 is not expected to match last year's results, as experts are still anticipating average yields for the time being. There will be repeated corrections in the coming months once sowing is complete and it becomes clear how this year's crop is developing.
