BRUSSELS. US President Donald Trump's recent visit to China has seen a rally in corn and wheat and soybean pricing in recent weeks with China maintaining its promise to purchase USD 17 billion worth of agri products in the US. Yet, with planting nearly complete, farmers have not been able to take direct advantage of this surge. Consternation prevails for soybeans. Cold weather is an issue for EU rapeseed.

North Africa to buy less wheat

In the US, the wheat market is firm, with winter wheat crops in Texas and Oklahoma in poor condition. Kansas and Nebraska are also experiencing drought problems. For the EU, Expana forecasts a soft wheat production of 128.8 million mt, a good 100,000 mt higher than last month, but 6% below last year’s crop. Expectations are highly encouraging in Romania, Bulgaria and Spain. Rain in France and Germany has allayed fears of drought stress. In parts of Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Western Russia, rainfall is likely to increase further
