NEW DELHI/BEIJING. Everything about the situation in China currently indicates that the country wants to meet the demand for peanuts as far as possible from its own cultivation. This is also being felt on the Indian market.

The month of May has seen a series of price falls on the Indian peanut market. This week, prices are managing to hold at last week's level, but market experts are predicting further reductions. In West Bengal, the harvest is in full swing and large arrivals are reaching the markets, and this week the new crop is also reaching the major trading centres, putting massive pressure on prices.
