NEW DELHI/DAKAR. In India, weak export demand and higher crop forecasts in several states are holding back the market; at the same time, production shortfalls in Gujarat are having the opposite effect. In Senegal, a new facility for local peanut processing is being built.

Demand and crop prospects

Indian peanut prices have fluctuated within certain ranges in recent weeks, although an improvement in price trends is expected in the long term. Business is currently being weighed down primarily by weak export demand, higher crop prospects in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and possible reductions in import duties on crude and refined edible oils.
