REUS. South Africa is boasting a 35% uprise in pecan kernel output for 2024/2025. Judging by the historical average US production will flatline. Brazil will experience a production decline.

Kernel output to rise a bit

According to the figures presented at the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Congress in May global pecan kernel production will range 1% higher in 2024/2025 than in 2023/2024. Contrary to this, worldwide supplies will decline by 1% to 186,236 mt. Expectation is that Mexico will remain the top kernel producing country in 2024/2025, although output is anticipated to decline by 4%. Subjective estimates are not yet possible for the 2024 US crop and the figures shown here only present historical averages, which indicate that production will remain relatively flat.

Harvesting is currently underway in South Africa and prospects are excellent. Kernel output should surge by 35% and the South African Pecan Nut Producers Association left the inshell crop estimate unchanged at 29,800-31,300 mt in May, of which 26,800-28,200 mt will be in exportable quality. Brazil stands out as the only country in which a double-digit production decline is expected.
