Pistachios: high demand vs. limited supplies

THERAN/FRESNO. As the January Shipment Report issued by the Administrative Committee for Pistachios (ACP) highlights US exports have slumped. Inventories are limited but projections for the 2025 crop are encouraging. Iran is about to lose its competitive position.

US shipment still down on last year

Total US pistachio shipments may have only reached 462.482 million pounds between September 2024 and January 2025, which marks a 25% slump on the record 614.482 million pounds shipped in the same period in 2023/2024, yet this figure is still much higher than the volumes shipped in 2022/2023 or 2021/2022. Exports are the main driver as they have sharply declined by 29% to 359.567 million pounds.
