Cashews: producing countries want more independence

HANOI. To coincide with the International Cashew Conference, which was supposed to have taken place last weekend in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) published a summary of the most important developments in the Vietnamese cashew market. The conference was postponed to the Q4 of 2021 due to the pandemic.

Vietnam remains top exporter

According to Vinacas, Vietnam started exporting cashews in 1990 when 286 mt were shipped overseas. The market and, in correlation, the cultivated areas expanded rapidly, so that the country managed to become the top cashew exporter for the first time in 2006. Until the pandemic-stricken year 2020, Vietnam was able to maintain this top position throughout, and even though the coronavirus brought various difficulties in the transport sector and the lowest export prices ever recorded, the pandemic could not shake it - Vietnamese cashew expo
