Dried apricots: weak demand might persist until the end of the season

MALATYA. The apricot market is currently very quiet and market players expect this situation to continue until at least mid-May. However, exporters do not expect demand to increase significantly then, either.

Barberries: sharp rise in demand and curious gaps
TEHRAN. Traders in Iran report curious gaps and remarkable discrepancies relating to barberry exports. One curious fact is that although exports were up 31.2% at 38,152 kg in terms of volume in January/February on the same period last year, they slumped by 46.4% to USD 21,582 in terms of value. On clear trend is, however, emerging. Demand is certainly on the rise.

Dates: consumer demand bounces back
TEHRAN/MADRID. Date exports from Iran have not only recovered from last year’s coronavirus shock but also range well above average. Initial fears that unprocessed products may transmit the virus have been dismissed and traders report that consumer confidence has certainly returned. By contrast, the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC), however, states that the market is bearish.

MADISON/OTTAWA. Difficult weather conditions have led to crop losses in the growing regions of the USA for the second year in a row. Demand, however, remains high.

Prunes: world crop declines by a quarter
SACRAMENTO/SANTIAGO. The INC's latest report shows that prune production is down significantly this season in almost all major producing countries. This is of course reflected in the prices.

AYDIN. Market players report little trading activity and do not expect much movement in the course of Ramadan, either. Exports, meanwhile, have settled at last year's level.
