Sesame seeds: new crop available from mid-October

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. The sesame seed harvest in India is starting these days and the first shipments should take place in mid-October. Growers in Pakistan have also already completed the majority of their harvest.

EU imports from Chad have increased

In the first two and a half months of the 2024/2025 season (1 July to 22 September), a total of 30,123 mt of sesame seeds were imported into the EU from third countries, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. While imports from Nigeria (-5.8% to 5,796 mt), Turkey (-23.2% to 2,130 mt) and Pakistan (-5.5% to 1,303 mt) fell noticeably, shipments from India (+21.2% to 7,990 mt), Chad (+266.4% to 2,180 mt) and Uganda (+69.7% to 2,094 mt) increased significantly year-on-year.
