Sesame seeds: Hard times for growers in India

NEW DELHI. Bad communications in India have caused growers to sow sesame seeds before learning they would have to get by without additional irrigation due to water shortages.

 

The investments in seeds, fertiliser, and labour have therefore been partially wasted or spent on other crops. Other growers were lucky enough to decide against sowing sesame due to the drought, though they are not growing any alternative crops either. Their fields will lay fallow this summer.

Sesame is not a seasonal product
